Fault Case: ME60 Board Unregistered 20 May, 2026. Posted by:XPONSHOP

As broadband and carrier networks continue expanding, Huawei ME60 routers are frequently upgraded with new service boards to increase capacity and support growing subscriber traffic.

During live network expansion, engineers may sometimes encounter abnormal board registration failures after inserting a new service board. This case describes how to troubleshoot a VSUF-4000A board registration failure on an ME60 router.

Fault Phenomenon

After a VSUF-4000A is installed on the ME60, the VSUF-4000A fails to register.

Initial Troubleshooting

The following checks were performed:

  • Board online status

  • Alarm information

  • Interface physical status

  • Power supply status

  • Backplane communication

  • Version compatibility

No obvious hardware fault was found but only show "unregistered".

Handling Process

1. The board is still not registered after waiting for 30 minutes.

2. The analysis of the diagnostic log shows that the board fails to be registered because the following script returns a failure:

3. The offline configuration of the Eth-Trunk exists in slot 5, and the member interfaces of the Eth-Trunk are only the interfaces in slot 5. It is suspected that the script error is related to the offline configuration.

4. Further analyze the configuration file. It is preliminarily determined that the device is the standby device in hot standby (HSB) mode. When the board is removed, users on the standby device do not go offline.

5. According to the code implementation, when a member interface is added to an Eth-Trunk interface, the system checks whether the interface-down command is configured. If the command is configured and the member interface is the last member interface of the Eth-Trunk interface, the system returns a script failure message. As a result, the board fails to register.

Root Cause

When the offline configuration is restored due to a board replacement, an error message is displayed in the script for adding an Eth-Trunk member interface to the Eth-Trunk interface. As a result, the board fails to register.

Solution

The undo user-policy interface-down command is deleted from the system view.

Suggestion and Summary

This Huawei ME60 case shows that:

  • Configuration restoration can directly affect board registration

  • Eth-Trunk policies may trigger hidden script failures

  • HSB environments require additional caution during maintenance

When replacing the CGN board with an interface board, you are advised to delete the original Eth-Trunk interface. The Eth-Trunk interface cannot be deleted in offline mode.
